Notes: Edinburgh: William & Robert Chambers, 1839. Four books bound together as one, 8vo, 138pp/114pp/120pp/230pp. Brown quarter-leather boards with blindstamping, boxes and gilt at the spine. No DJ, as issued. Bumped corners, worn edges, scratched leather and tattered cloth. Binding is strong and interior is only mildly foxed with the worst marks on the endpapers. PO's gift inscription on the first flyleaf: "To John C. Rae from Mrs. Jenkins, Turriff, 24th July 1910." Authorship of the third book is misattributed to George Stephens, when it was in fact written by the same J. L. Stephens who produced the second book. The fourth is translated from French.
