First US edition, inscribed and signed by the author on an inserted title page in volume 1. Original green pictorial cloth, spines stamped in gilt, front boards stamped in black and gilt. No dust jackets. Illustrated with black & white plates and cuts throughout, 3 folding maps altogether in pockets at the rear of both volumes.
Cloth rubbed. Volume 1: front board stained, front hinge starting, bookseller's ticket on the rear paste down. All 3 folding maps complete but with tears along the folds. Very good condition. beh (case west 6)
