London Longman Brown Green & Longmans 1853-1858 3 Volumes. 8vo xix 564 xi 912 xiii 818p. green 1/2 calf over cloth covered boards. Gilt decorated spines with raised bands and brown leather labels. Red marbled endpapers and edges with Baronial bookplates in each volume. de la Rive (1801-1873) was a Swiss physicist chiefly known for his electrochemical studies of batteries. He also worked on incandescent lamps and the de la Rive tube is named for him. Moderate overall wear particularly at extremities to covers. Each title page has 2 owners' names & vol. 1 has third owner's name opposite tp. Inner hinge of vol. 1 has been mended. Internally clean & readable- a very good set.
