Spines have black & red labels, raised bands & elaborate gilt decorations. Volumes 1&2 are scientific memoirs on a wide variety of scientific & engineering subjects, edited by George Peacock. Volume 3, edited by John Leitch, concerns itself with Young's work on the Rosetta Stone and with Egyptian writing. The last volume is Peacock's Life of Thomas Young. The first three volumes, in particular, are marvelously well illustrated- the heiroglyphics especially so. Wikipedia describes Young (1773-1829) as "An English genius & polymath admired by, among others. Herschel & Einstein". This collection of his life & works certainly bears that out and should find a welcomed place in any collection of the history of science. Moderate overall wear to covers- the front cover of volume 4 is detached. Other hinges tender but still sound & bindings solid. Owner's name in each volume- no other markings and virtually no foxing.
